When it came to preparing for Clare’s arrival, I knew I needed a guy-friendly diaper bag if I ever wanted Rick to tow that heavy load. While he is man enough to carry my purse in a pinch, selecting a diaper bag that made a unisex statement was key. That statement was… “this kid is yours too pal so get ready to pull your weight in baby gear.” Ha, I kid, sort-of, no I don’t. Here’s our favorite no-frills, but all the bells-n-whistles, man-friendly diaper bag from Target stocked with all the goods you need whether baby is rocking the park with mama or grocery shopping with the big guy.

But before we get into the details, can we just pause and swoon over these brand new dads back before they were the seasoned experts they are today? Sigh, as if shopping for all this adorable baby gear wasn’t enough to make me want another little bundle of sweet baby goodness.

Jaime and I pulled together some of our favorite items from Target, along with a few other shops, that we feel can easily work for both Mom and Dad. It was not easy staying on the task of shopping for baby. A newborn definitely needs Mom to have a cute, spring pair of espadrilles. Can you put those in a baby registry?

Get the scoop on how to pack Dad’s first diaper bag after the jump…

The Eddie Bauer Diaper Bag is one of our favorites for both Mom and Dad. It is roomy enough to fit all the essentials, but compact enough that it doesn’t feel too bulky while you’re schlepping it around. It comes with a compartment just for wet wipes and a changing pad that folds up inside.

Up&Up baby wipes are both hypoallergenic and alcohol-free. I found they were soft on my babies’ bums and seemed to help reduce the chance of diaper rash.

Keep a pack of these designer Slim-Pack Kleenex Facial Tissues on hand for runny noses and sloppy, post-meal messes. Their unique, slim-pack size makes them really easy to just shove into your back pocket while you head out for the day. I also love checking out the new prints and designs they use for their packaging.

The Born Free Glass Bottles are BPA free and come with a protective silicone sleeve to keep it from shattering when it’s dropped. They grow with your child and can be used with five different flow rate nipples and sippy cup spouts.

Don’t forget a water bottle and a healthy snack for you too.

I always like to keep a tin of Chimes Ginger Chews on hand. FYI mamas-to-be: ginger is a lifesaver for easing morning sickness and nausea.

Accidents can happen at a drop of a hat, like literally right after you changed Baby’s diaper, so it’s important to have an extra pair of clothes and diapers ready to go. You might need a change of clothing yourself. Yes, it can get messy.

Tuck a knit baby beanie into one of the diaper bag pockets for when it gets chilly.

At the end of a lovely spring day, snuggle baby up in a cozy baby blanket with this teething toy.

May I simply say what a comfort to uncover a person that actually knows what they’re discussing
on the web. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make
it important. More and more people need to read this and understand this side of the story.
It’s surprising you’re not more popular since you definitely have the gift.

My kids are older, 2.5 & 1 and I really should remember still to put the extra clothes in the bag. But the few times I need them, I don’t have them, and I get a naked toddler the rest of the day.

I keep my diaper bag stocked and in the car (too lazy to carry it around), but I have found kids are never too old to have some extra clothes handy! I keep old stuff in the car, so they might not look fashionable, but we are prepared. You never know when you will need to stop and run through a sprinkler or jump in a really good muddy puddle. Great list!
