Remember that Hot Mess Sweatshirt Dress we shared with you mamas? P.S. I’ve been living in mine. Well, right after Anna was working away on making that, she decided to make one for kids too. This one however, only requires one sweatshirt and takes less than an hour to make.

DIY Sweatshirt Dress for Girls
Cut sleeves off a Men’s large sweatshirt.
Use an existing top to shape the top half of the dress. Make top half a little shorter than the shirt. You can see I folded the shirt under.
Cut all the way across to make your bottom half.
Draw shape of pockets on bottom half following the waist shape of the top half. Make sure to slightly curve the pocket opening to give your dress some shape.
Use excess fabric to shape your pockets. I used the bit of excess fabric left over from the top half. Lay excess fabric underneath bottom half of the dress.
Mark the same slight curve shape and cut.
Place the cut piece on top of bottom half. Mark pocket shape.
Cut. Repeat on opposite side using your pocket as a guide for the other side.
Now for the sleeves. Place the large sleeve next to the top half of the dress and mark your new sleeve using your armhole as a guide. Make a slight curve at bottom seam to keep it from being too loose.
Cut. Repeat on the other sleeve.
Sew all the pieces together separately.
Pin pocket to bottom half of dress.
Match seam to seam and sew all around. Repeat on opposite side.
Once sewn shut, pin the pockets to back side of bottom half of dress to secure the openings when attaching top and bottom together.
Pin sleeves to arm holes, matching seams, and sew around.
Fold bottom half inside out and pin to the top half.
Sew around and you’re done!
You can also make this style your own by using sweatshirts with prints or color blocking with your choice of colors . Make it to fit your personality!
As soon as I saw the original post I thought of my girls! I used kids sizes though and used up two as in your original tutorial. And my I did my pockets in a jungle polar fleece and fabric stamped hearts all over the top part. I actually used the same colour sweatshirt you have used here! Seriously awesome idea, I just have to find the perfect sweatshirt for me now! I’m thinking it will be super comfy on the plane trip we will take later this year. Thanks ladies =D

Really love it, although it’s a pity that the cut that is made for the sleeves doesn’t allow the sleeves to look finished with ribbing. Could the sleeve cut out be made further down the sleeve so that the ribbing can be included?
Love this!! Just made it for my daughter this morning from 2 kids sized purple sparkle sweaters!! So cute! Decided to go with the 2 kids sized ones so that the neckline fitted well. And Elisha – I used the cuffs as a starting point for the sleeves and measured back from there, so it has great sleeves as well!! Love this and will be making over and over. Thanks!!
So cute and practical!
